Day Four

10:17 AM

Today was the Farm Tour! Euton drove us to Magi's farm, and we appreciated it so much because everybody was so sore from the hike up to the Minto School yesterday.  The farm tour was so much fun, and we got to see a bunch of different fruit trees such as banana, noni, orange, jackfruit, breadfruit, acke, chocolate and so much more! We also got to try fresh sugar cane, and it was delicious. Our hands were super sticky in the end, and Johann claimed that he could totally climb the walls like a gecko haha. Sadly, it is still a little early in the season so we didn't get to try a lot of the fruits such as mangos and the famous cashew fruit. Magi was such a awesome tour guide though and she kept stuffing fruits in our pockets and backpacks. At the end of the tour, we took a lot of pictures together, and she gave a wonderful introduction of her farm on our GoPro. I can't wait to see the final edit of our documentary/video!

After the farm tour, we went to Minto to finish up on our football goals. The white board project is on pause because we are waiting for Euton to get the right primer. The football goals didn't take long to finish. However, we lost our bag of zip ties to attach the soccer net to the frame because one of the students was playing with the bag and threw it off the cliff! Thankfully, the nets come with velcro attached on the corners, so we were able to finish it up temporarily so the kids (or "pickneies" because kids mean baby goats in Patois) can start playing with it. Katie and Johann played with the kids during lunch recess, and it looked like a lot of fun! In the afternoon, we started working on the solar dehydrator. A lot of hand sawing was involved, and we were so glad that some of the community members came and helped us! We cut out most of the parts by the end of the day and appreciated the motivational music from Julia P. and Johann’s phone.

We got back at the Square around 5pm and the rest of the night was really relaxing. We were planning on having the team meeting at the clinic as usual, but Joe is sick so he couldn’t open the door for us. We had the meeting at Ms. Kay’s house, so it was not surprising that her kids joined us as well. We talked about questions we will be asking for the teachers meeting tomorrow and half way through the meeting, the power went out! We finished up the meeting with flashlight aid from Julia C. and Johann and decided that now was a good time to go stargazing. We lied down on the football field with the kids, and the sky was so beautiful. I wish we had a good camera to capture it! We managed to find the Big Dipper, Little Dipper, and the North Star. It was nice to just lay back and appreciate beauty of this place we live on. The kids started singing parodies of pop songs such as Rude, Stay with Me, Thinking Out Loud, Wrecking Ball, and they were amazing!! It was such a precious moment, and we ended the night with a sing-off. We attempted High School Musical. The kids obviously won, and we walked back together under the stars.
